I am currently employed as a full-time ESL teacher and am a PhD student at the University at Albany, SUNY. I graduated from UMASS Amherst in the School of Education. I hold a M.Ed in Bilingualism, ESL, and Multicultural and hold a k-12 Massachusetts ESL license. My field of research is in English as a second language writing using Systemic Functional Linguistics and Genre-based pedagogy. In addition, I research extensive reading for second language learners. I have taught, researched, and published for universities in Kyoto, Japan.
I am a passionate cyclist and runner. I am data driven in my training and enjoy both competition, camaraderie, and exploration. Since I was a child, I have loved the sense of empowerment and humility that cycling gives and have found recently that it has also become a means for continual self-betterment and motivation for all aspects of my life. I love sharing the road and finding new places with friends.
I grew up in rural Massachusetts and after discovering a knack for Japanese, I lived 1/3 of my life in both Japan and China. I have been happily married for eight years, have two incredible children, a spunky puppy, and live a truly multicultural and bilingual life. We reside in Western Massachusetts and enjoy being outdoors doing things like gardening, grilling, hiking., cycling, and occasionally sailing. I am a positive person who enjoys laughter, family, and continual self-improvement.
